Reflections

Gems of Vedic wisdom extracted from Jagadguru Kripalu Bhaktiyoga Tattvadarshan, the teachings of Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj.

Evaluate your Faith

Sometimes we start thinking against our spiritual teacher; sometimes we start losing faith in our scriptures and sometimes this world is more appealing to us. If the world is more attractive to you, then know that you cannot become detached from it. And without being detached from the world there will be no faith. Detachment is the foundation of faith. Pay close attention to these two words: 100% and always. There should always be 100% belief that there is no true happiness in this world. Do not run after the world. If you have any attachment to worldly relations, to various foods and their tastes etc. — that is, an attraction to the things that we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch — then know that your detachment is incomplete, and therefore, your faith will be unstable. Evaluate your faith in this way, and when you catch yourself making mistakes, rectify them …

Remember Two Things

We never procrastinate when it comes to doing things in this world. We never postpone fulfilling our vices like lust, anger, and greed. We never say to ourselves, “Okay, let me get angry with him tomorrow.” Why don’t you procrastinate and say, “I will vent my anger tomorrow.” Who knows? You may feel better tomorrow and save yourself from the consequences of committing another ungodly act. Ravan said to Lakshman, “Son, remember two things. I am sharing this with you from my deathbed. Perform all good actions immediately without procrastinating and procrastinate all your wrongdoings. Think, “I will do that tomorrow.” Because human emotions keep changing, you may not have those negative feelings the following day and be saved from consequences of enacting them …

Realise His Grace

God gave us a human body and He made us understand the true knowledge of the scriptures. He has graced us in every possible way. He even planned for our meals too. There are millions less fortunate who do not have enough to eat. Some people are born blind, some with a limb missing and some with problems associated with them. We are more fortunate than millions of others! We should realise this grace and not be prideful. You should practice like this. Every month, pause for ten minutes and analyse your spiritual progress. If you realise that you have not progressed, then feel remorseful and promise that you will do better in the coming month. I will not feel offended if someone insults me. I will not become angry at anyone; I will instead get angry at the anger within me. I will inflict no pain on anyone
